CLOSED CELL SPONGE RUBBER SHEETS, PARTS, AND GASKETS

CLOSED CELL SPONGE RUBBER  is actually not "sponge" at all, but rather an "expanded" rubber compound.

Much like it's solid rubber counterparts, different rubber types have different properties, allowing some to be suitable for outdoor use, some for contact with solvents or oils, etc.

Closed cell expanded rubber is made from the same types of rubber and polymers, but during its production it is "expanded" by use of a foaming agent that uses gas to form millions of tiny bubbles in the material. Unlike "sponge" or open cell foam where the bubbles are broken, the closed cell bubbles are just that - closed.

In a gasket application, these tiny bubbles or cells can be compressed - and since they are made of rubber, the result is a flexible collection of tiny closed cells forming a barrier against air, liquid, sound, etc.  If the closed cell material is used in a dampening or shock reducing application, these tiny cells act like millions of little springs, absorbing impact or shock. When the gasket pressure is released or the impact removed, the closed cell material springs back (commonly known as rebound).

This versatile material has found its way into virtually every industry from aviation to zookeeping and we have buns and popular sheet sizes in stock and ready to ship !
